- First restaurant of its kind in Ohio
- Columbus, Ohio — CASTO, one of the country’s leading real estate organizations, announced today that the first The Original Soup Man in Ohio will be opening at Broad & High in early January 2008. The Original Soup Man features the Zagat-rated soups of legendary soup man Al Yegaheh, who inspired the “Soup Nazi” on Seinfeld. “We are very excited to have The Original Soup Man open its first Ohio location at Broad & High,” said William J. Riat, partner at CASTO. “Having a presence at this corner of downtown Columbus will benefit their business and the city for many years to come.” The Original Soupman joins the impressive lineup of Broad & High retail and office tenants including Café Lola, NBC 4 and Paul Werth Associates. The restaurant, which will be housed in 1,664 square-feet of retail space, serves 50 varieties of soups, including eight soup choices per day. “Al Yeganeh’s soups have been an institution in New York City for more than 25 years because they are quality, Zagat-rated soups that you would expect to find at a fine restaurant,” said Phil Smith, partner at Michael-Phillips Restaurant Group, the development area owner of The Original Soup Man. “We are excited to bring these soups to Columbus and to be a part of the exciting Broad & High project.” Mr. Yeganeh, founder of the Soup Kitchen International, has been producing premium, gourmet soups for a loyal following of devotees for over a quarter century. People from all over the world have been known to wait for hours in all kinds of weather for a taste of his much-heralded jambalaya, crab bisque or mulligatawny. The idea to franchise his soup shop came from Mr. Yeganeh’s desire to share his craft with a larger audience—namely the entire world. The flagship Original Soup Man location opened on Manhattan’s 42 Street in November 2005, dozens of stores are opened in the U.S. and Canada, with another 25 scheduled to open before the year’s end. Over 4000 franchise applications have been received and the company is selecting the best of the best operators—all of whom must share Mr. Yeganeh’s passion and dedication to soup.
