Monday, January 17, 2005
NBC 4 Studios to Broadcast from Broad & High
Columbus, Ohio — Casto today announced that NBC 4 is joining Broad & High, its mixed-use project at Columbus, Ohio's historic downtown corner. NBC 4 will broadcast live from its new satellite studio to be located at 4 East Broad Street. The ground-level studio, located on the ground level of the old Roy's Jewelers building, will incorporate a glass fašade much like The Today Show and other similarly designed NBC broadcast studios and will be known as 4 on the Square. Highlighting NBC 4's dedication to news and its support of downtown development, Craig Robinson, President and General Manager of NBC 4, stated, "The development and growth of the downtown area is one of the most exciting stories in Columbus today. We not only wanted to chronicle the growth, we wanted to be a part of it. A downtown studio has been part of our future plans for some time. As soon as we saw Casto's vision for the corner of Broad and High, we knew that this was it!" Casto's development plans for Broad & High include luxury condominium homes overlooking the State Capitol Building, ground-level retail, Class A office space, and a stunning, visual array of scrolling, lighted digital ticker-tapes and billboards at downtown's major intersection. The construction barricade is currently being erected and will feature huge signs depicting the new design of the project. Demolition is slated to begin in April. According to Bill Riat, Casto's partner overseeing the project, "We are pleased to welcome NBC 4 to our Broad & High project. It demonstrates their commitment to downtown and reflects our belief that the redevelopment of this historic corner will have a major positive impact on the changing face of downtown Columbus. We are very excited about the opportunity to breathe life into this corner." NBC 4 debuted as the first Columbus television station on April 3, 1949 as WLW-C when it began broadcasting from studios in a garage at its current location at 3165 Olentangy River Road. 4 on the Square is the first satellite studio of its kind for the station. NBC 4 is one of 14 owned-and-operated stations of the National Broadcasting Company and is the market leader with NBC 4 News at 11 with breaking news, weather, health and on the web at www.nbc4i.com. Casto is a full-service, fully integrated real estate company that has been based in Columbus, Ohio for more than 75 years. Casto has grown from a developer of quality, single-family residences to a third-generation portfolio that includes more than 19 million square feet of commercial space, 7,000 multi-family homes as well as office and industrial properties, restaurants and hotels in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, California and Alabama.
